What is Functional Hallux Limitus?

August 28th, 2011

The big toe articulation in the actual feet are an important articulation to get natural gait. It is the joint that the leg pivots forwards over and also moves on top of. If the first metatarsophalangeal joint doesn’t dorsiflex, then it can be tougher for the leg to move forward and a lot more energy is needed to move. There are plenty of diseases which could impact this first metatarsophalangeal joint and will have an impact on the actual forward movements. One of those issues is functional hallux limitus. This is a problem that exclusively comes about when functioning and there is the restriction in the range of flexion with the articulation as soon as walking plus a full range of motion when not really walking. Pain is associated with any movement of the big toe joint.
