How A Gateway Payment Works

A gateway payment is a machine that acts as the middle mad. A retailer swipes the customer’s card and the point of sale system reads the black strip which then goes to the gateway. The gateway will speak to the processor of the issuing bank and will return a response in a matter of seconds. The only time the transaction get held up and take a few minutes is if the link is bad or the bank is not a very big one.
