The Windlass Mechanism

December 20th, 2009

A lot gets asked of our foot- we make it walk on hard surfaces, we add body weight and we lift heavy weights. Yes, indeed all of these things add to the stress on our foot that is why it can sometimes break down and cause so many problems to us. Our creator designed our foot to take a lot but not too much. Among the structures in the foot that is designed to support itself is called the windlass mechanism of the foot and is due to a tight band of ligament that helps lifts up the arch when you are walking and the big toe bends.
