Benefits of Prostate Surgery Outweigh the Complications
February 17th, 2010
Surgery is the last of the three treatments for patients with enlarged prostates. This method is used when medication and non-surgical treatments have not helped to lessen the symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. As with any treatment, you need to talk to your urologist about the type of surgery that will be performed and any complications that may arise. Most surgeries to treat BPH involve removing large sections of the prostate gland. The surgery is performed in a hospital or clinic under general anesthesia. Most patients get along fine during and after the surgery, but there can be complications. The benefits of the surgery generally outweigh the risks. This is another point that needs to be discussed with your doctor.
