Push To Recycle Batteries

February 27th, 2010

Because many people don’t know what to do with old batteries, a new law has recently gone into effect that requires manufacturers to put a battery bin in any store that carries batteries. When the bin is full, the store will call the manufacturer to have them picked up and recycled. Most people would recycle if it were made easy for them. The goal is to increase recycling of batteries by 10% by the year end, 25 % by 2012 and 45% by 2016. Currently there are over 30,000 tons of batteries sold in the UK with only 3% of those currently recycled.
